Are there any free administrative boundaries available as shapefiles?
This is a follow up to my previous question How to highlight the area in google map on mouse hover. In my application i need to highlight the area/place/region when mouse hovers. @simo pointed me out to try kml shapefiles to generate the polygons on mouse over.
Is there a open wiki where i can download the shapefile mappings of the real world boundaries.
I have searched but couldn't find any solid data. But i find this wikimapia kml integrated google map. This allows the wikimapia places/kml shapefiles to be rendered on top of google maps. This is pretty much what i need. But instead the whole wikimapia layer like this
i only wanted to highlight the area on mouse hover (without the explicit blue boundaries in above pic), like this
Anybody have an idea how to do this. I am totally new to this. Any references would be really helpful.
