I have a standard DTED data. DTED data vertical datums are specified using EGM96 geoid.

I would like to correct these DTED data vertical datum in a way their are referred to the WGS84 vertical datum (don't ask, please).

I know that this operation is possible, but the problem is that DTED includes also accuracy data, related with the original vertical datums.

The questions are:

  • How DTED accuracy is specified? I can read on the DTED specification that absolute/relative vertical accuracy; is absolute meant for the value itself? is relative meant from adjacent points?

  • The accuracy could be kept in the new DTED editions (because error linearity), or simply they must be discarded since they are not related anymore with any vertical datum? If they can be kept, how to correct them?

The reasoning behind the above question are "If I correct DTED vertical datum, how can I correct accuracy values"?
