Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Recent redundancy from office with GIS staff at hand has left me highland dry - trying to get to grips with the QGIS which looks perfect for my needs yet can't even find simple instructions on where to hold files. Following sample instructions but suggested files are greyed out and thus not loadable.

Cheers Rupert

what do you mean with "where to hold files"? An extensive manual is available on the project website qgis.org. If you have specific questions, please post them with the necessary detail. Companies offering support are also listed on the website. You might want to contact the mailing list too. – underdark May 5 '12 at 19:26
