I am using QGis 1.7.4 and I want to do the following:

I want to upload an image of Google Earth and create a shapefile with different land use of an specific area (forest, farm, shrubland, etc.) using the guidance of the google earth image. When I try to upload Google layer an error message appears so I have being trying with Open Layer. However the open layer uploads all the world image and my computer gets really slow. I want to know if there is any way I can clip the google earth image to my area of interest.
