Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am trying to view data from an ArcGis map that is saved as a bunch of ADF files. I have never used ArcGis or Quantum GIS before, but I do have them installed.

The data is available here: [URL="http://www.nceas.ucsb.edu/globalmarine/impacts"] It's the third map from the bottom, called "Commercial Activity (Shipping)". Basically I just want to view the map in spreadsheet form, and I can't seem to figure out how to do that, although I am certain there must be an easy and straightforward way to do so (I was told to try using Quantum GIS, but I don't know how to go about it).

If anyone could only point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. I am really not familiar with GIS-related data at all.

Thank you very much in advance,

Alex

It helps to show a little research or effort in your question. That site offers data in three formats, including TIFF. If all you want to do is view the data, why not use a graphics program that reads TIFF files? If you tried that, what problems occurred? Since you have ArcGIS and QGIS installed, did you consult their help concerning how to open raster datasets? What obstacles did you encounter when doing that? – whuber Jul 6 '12 at 14:01
If the data is only available in a raster format you will not be able to view the data in a spreadsheet format, as spreadsheets read tabular data, not pixel based data. – Ryan Garnett Jul 7 '12 at 5:19
