Using DIVA GIS, each time I attempt to import some species data from an xls file to be plotted onto a map, the program becomes very slow and eventually becomes unresponsive. My dataset originally included 15,000 separate points so I tried importing only 2,000 of them and the same error occurred. Am I simply trying to import too much data at once? If so, can this be overcome? I then intended to analyse my species distribution against the imported climatic data to discover a statistical relationship.

what software do you use? – Kurt Aug 4 '12 at 20:37
This doesn't seem like much data. I think there is a problem with the tools, or the way in which you are using them. Also, it might help if you can show at least some of the data. – BradHards Aug 4 '12 at 22:40
Apologies for the delay, thank you for your responses. I'm using DIVA GIS. The program allows me to preview the data plotted correctly, so I think I'm importing it correctly, it just then becomes unresponsive when I attempt to actually plot it on. – Jazz Rhoades Aug 19 '12 at 18:59
