I'm having issues importing large amounts of data. I have about 25 gigabytes (2752 files ) that im trying to export as one big hill shade. I did this successfully in ArcGIS but i wasn't happy with the way ArcMap renders the hill-shade and wanted to render it in GM12. My computer is running Win7 64 bit with 12 gigs of RAM.

I tried importing the single DEM that i mosaicked with ArcGIS but even if I leave GM running over night to load it in it is still frozen when i get back in the next day.

If i try to load the 2752 files it loads all of them and then gives me a runtime error saying something about memory and rendering (cant remember the exact message) and then only renders part of what i loaded.

What's the deal, can Global Mapper handle Large Datasets?

Thanks

from experience with global mapper you can load up to 90% of your available memory - in your case that is 8GB (4GB use by windows7/64bit tech.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/global_mapper/message/11761 - are your images LZW compressed? – Mapperz Aug 21 '12 at 16:24
