I have to display an overlay with different colors depending on the zipcode in Europe. Can I get this information from OSM shapefile ? If yes, how exaclty ? Is there a tutorial somewhere ?

Depends on how good the data is. For example the border relation of Havelange has an attribute of postal code "5370;5372;5374;5376". So you can not get separate polygons for each of those postal codes. In Germany there was a postal code import wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Catalogue/… – AndreJ Sep 14 '12 at 11:16
