How to access feature classes in File Geodatabases with python and gdal?

I have installed:

python-2.7.msi

GDAL-1.9.1.win32-py2.7.exe

import ogr
driver = ogr.GetDriverByName("FileGDB")
print driver

I receive None

Do I need to install something extra to open GDB?

Looks like you'll need to build GDAL with FileGDB support.

An alternative is to use OSGEO4W. It automatically takes care of all your dependencies under Windows.

Not that I'm aware of. The easiest thing to do is download OSGEO4W. There is a very good procedure here: gis.stackexchange.com/questions/26285/… –  Rayner Oct 4 '12 at 19:49

For those using OSX Lion, here are some good step-by-step instructions: https://gist.github.com/2005158
