I'm having a 'CAD to GIS' issue. I have a dwg file which contains large number of contour lines that have been split by labels. I need to import the contour lines from CAD to GIS so that they contain a 'Contour Value' attribute. The issue is that CAD line has no 'Contour Value' attribute.
So far my workflow in a simmilar situation was to import the annotations to GIS as points and then to spatially relate them with contour lines (based on closest distance) which worked fine for smaller number of lines. In this case, I have around 700 individual lines. The attribute points are not placed in the centre between two contour lines so I am not able to perform spatial join as previously. The lines themselves in many instances are separated, even tho they share common vertex location.
Is there a way to:
1) merge lines based on the common vertex?
2) attribute them with appropriate contour value from my point shapefile?
Is there a way to work through this in AutoCAD or is it easier done in GIS - or perhaps other software?
Here is the link to the data
I'd be grateful for your help! Many thanks, Magda
