Since good automatic label placement is such a difficult (and potentially subjective) problem, are there any public datasets containing manually-positioned feature labels?
I'm primarily interested in labels for major country polygons, and rather than point positions I'd like to see LineStrings along which the feature label should be drawn (potentially curved), such as to minimise overlap with other labels as well as appearing close to the area of the feature polygon(s) in question.
Even if the data is automatically positioned, I don't mind so much as long as it's good!
