I'm a GIS beginner here. I'm trying to add a delimited text layer in QGIS. The plug-in is okay. I have created a table in Excel, saved as CSV file, imported the file with QGIS, selected the delimiters (comma for csv files), XY fields long/lat, but when I click okay the next message shows up:

The layer file:///D:/josimar,agromet/IIAM-est%C3%A1gio/J.Biosse%20small%20database22222.csv?delimiter=%5B,%5D&delimiterType=regexp&xField=Long&yField=Lat is not a valid layer and can not be added to the map.

What could be wrong?

Please post the first few lines of the file. Also try to load the file from a different path, e.g. copy it to D:/test.csv. There seem to be special characters in the path. – underdark♦ Feb 19 at 14:49

well, that's not the problem. i tried moving the file to a different path. it's not working either. perhaps the problem is with the data. when i saved as a csv file with excel it says that some features are not totally compatible with the csv format. – Josimar Feb 19 at 15:29

How are your coordinates formatted? They'll need to be a decimal, not in degrees-minutes-seconds. Here's a MS Knowledge Base article showing an easy way to convert to decimal:

There are several non-ASCII characters and a comma in the path to your file. I guess that spoils the correct work. Can you try it from another folder?

Thats normal for excel, because formatting and functions get lost when saving to csv. Can you share sample datasets? – Andre Joost Feb 19 at 18:54
