I am new at Postgis and I'm groping...

I pretend to rasterize some weighty vector layers in Postgis, do some map algebra and reclassification with them and visualize intermediate as well as final rasters in Qgis. I don’t want to have physical raster files (like geotiff or jpg) outside of DB, except at the end of the work flow.

Has anyone experienced a similar case?

I am thinking about using gdal virtual raster.

Can I use Postgis raster spatial functions with this option, or just gdal functions?

Has anyone experienced problems in Qgis viewing with gdal virtual raster from postgis db?

Until now I just rasterized using ST_AsRaster so it gave me a Postgis raster type and found it couldn’t be read by Qgis. I am thinking of do all the workflow in PostGis, based on an SQL script, except image visualization. So my post was also to know other experiences with PostGis workflow, to understand if it is a good way. – danalif Feb 28 at 14:09
