Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am often creating eological cross section with Geosoft Target and ArcMap. Geosoft Target does a good job of generating a sectional slice from any 3D DXF (or other supported 3D mesh). Unfortunately it can only import one 3D DXF as a time - and changing section location removes all imported DXF files. It is possible thefore to do what I need but VERY tedious to always re-import 30 3D DXF lithologies every time I need to change the section location.

Is there any software I can use that would do the same but which would keep the 3D DXF meshes when changing section location. I also need it to export the slices to geo-referenced 2D vector file (shapfile, dxf) so that i can complete the layout work in ArcMap.

I also have Leapfrog Mining, which is fantastic but it does not allow for exporting 2D vector slices from sections (see Leapfrog screen capture below - models are shown in 3D but outlined are the lithologies which i need to export as 2D slices)

Leapfrog model - slice shows the section i need and show as 2D section:

This a final product I now create with Target and ArcMap (VERY TIME CONSUMING): enter image description here
