i have created a DEM for a particular location, but i am stuck on how to find the best posible location to place a dam (and how to even make a dam) of 3om in height and 300m in length. please i need every possible idea on how to come about this. thanks

The part of your question about making a representation of the dam is answered at (Of course this is not the site to inquire about making the dam itself. :-) The other part is not answerable until you provide criteria for "best." Do you want to maximize volume of the impoundment? Minimize surface area? Maximize upstream drainage area? Something else? It's also strange that you specify both height and length; ordinarily, one would not be interested in creating a dam of a particular length! – whuber Mar 4 '13 at 17:49
i have tried following that, but still got nothing...i am new to this so , the step were too crude for me that's why i think i keep failing – user15724 Mar 9 '13 at 18:41
after the dam is created, i will want to calculate surface volume of the lake that is going to be formed and also the total area that is going to be affected by it – user15724 Mar 9 '13 at 18:42
You will have to tell us where you got stuck in the process and precisely what went wrong: "too crude" doesn't give us anything to go on. – whuber Mar 9 '13 at 21:44
how to re modify my dem to show the actual dam, after doing all the map algebra, i still couldn't do that last part – user15724 Mar 12 '13 at 8:26
