Trying to create representative slopes from .5 dem. It seems to do a wonderful job with the stream bottoms and also with the general trends. It shows it to be steep where steep and flat where flat. However when you zoom in it is very blocky. I am also concerned about getting 176% slope. This is very rugged terrain and there are cliffs but still 176 seems way too large. Attached is a snapshot of the options I picke image of slope raster. I am new at QGIS and GRASS. Have researched help and forums on this subject but so far I have not had any luck. Can you point me in correct direction or possibly tell me what I am missing. Thanks

A 176% slope is a 60 degree angle. Does that make you feel better? For a reference, take a look at the slopes I measured on a DEM and note how the frequency of very large slopes tends to increase as the resolution gets better. –  whuber Mar 14 '13 at 3:49
