Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My organization is awaiting SP2 before we can move our primary GIS team from 9.3.1 to 10.1. I have been testing 10.1 and have found a particularly bad bug that we've been told will be addressed in 10.1 SP2.

However, when I look at it on ESRI's site, the bug is set to be resolved in 10.2. When is that coming out? Will there be a 10.1 SP2 in the meantime?

Ouch, that's a nasty bug. I would holler loud and long at our Esri account rep and at tech support and if it were affecting our operations. Ask for a hotfix. Thanks for bringing it to our attention (and Welcome to GIS.se!). I still have to -1 the Q though, because it's of time limited nature and shortly will mean nothing. –  matt wilkie Mar 21 '13 at 17:17
I don't agree with @mattwilkie going -1 on your Question due to it being of time limited nature. My preference would be for us to wait until 10.2 is released and at that time vote for it to be Closed as no longer relevant. At the moment it's highly relevant - at least to me :-) –  PolyGeo Apr 19 '13 at 7:11
This question appears to have now become off-topic because it is about a release number that did not happen (and was replaced by a release that has now occurred). –  PolyGeo Aug 1 '13 at 23:30

I don't have the behind-the-scenes reasons, but what was ArcGIS 10.1 SP2 is now ArcGIS 10.2. This type of renumbering has occurred in the past because enough new development had occurred that the scope was bigger than a service pack.

As of March 14, 2013, there is still some work on-going. I don't think a release date has been determined yet. My semi-educated guess is before UC (which is in early July).

Edit: Developer Summit front page says that ArcGIS 10.2 will debut in June.

There should be some announcements at the Developer Summit which is coming up quick: March 25-28.

depending on the need and/or your bravery. beta.esri.com 10.2 is not open but it is a great place to go when the need is there and you are willing to devote time to dev. –  Brad Nesom Mar 14 '13 at 18:05
More info (hints) arrived today on 10.2 blogs.esri.com/esri/ucinsider/2013/03/18/… –  Mapperz Mar 21 '13 at 17:35
UC Q&A now says "ArcGIS 10.2 will be available to download shortly after the User Conference." - conference dates are July 8-12 2013. –  PolyGeo Jun 27 '13 at 22:11

I was told now that ArcGIS 10.2 will not be released now till July and given this link to an ESRI forum: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/792...highlight=july.

After digging through that forum post here's the important link: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/whats-coming

Thanks for posting. The second link even has a price tag! :) –  Kirk Kuykendall Jun 27 '13 at 21:47
As an update.... I checked the page today. It looks like 10.2 is a full new version distribution and not just a service pack, as expected. I will have to wait for the software to come in the mail, but maybe others could get a download from ESRI. I was unable to find a link, I assume you would have to call or start a chat with an ESRI staffer. –  Hardcoal Aug 6 '13 at 17:05
