I have a large data set of coordinates (in meters) measured on the ground relative to a set of trails in Peru. These were generated in the 1990s with a tape measure, and there are about 3000 of them. Since then, utm coordinates of many points in the same area have been gathered with GIS tools, and not too surprisingly, there is some systematic "error" in the first set relative to the true utm coordinates. I want to reconcile the first set (and another much larger set generated by following animals around the area) to the true utm coordinates, if possible. I understand this is something called "rubber sheeting". Can the transformation be accomplished in QGIS? It would be great if I could learn the whole system because it would be a great improvement to the way the data have been handled previously, but right now, I just want to accomplish the one task. Thanks for any help.
