I am trying to combine two annotation feature classes in ArcGIS 10.0 by copying and pasting one into the other. Unfortunately the two feature classes have the same symbols but the symbolids are different - i.e. one is 0 and the other is 3. When these are combined the leader lines of the annotations are lost so it's impossible to combine the annotations properly.

Is there any way to change the symbolid (this is the number in brackets after the symbol name in the "Annotation" tab of the Feature Class properties)? Annotations seem to be very difficult to work with and not very well documented.

I have tried the "Append Annotation Feature Classes" tool but that creates a number of different symbol classes, when I want to keep the same symbol for all annotations.
