I am trying to use SSHFS to access our file server and work on geographic data. I can mount the drive, get ArcCatalog to connect to the folder, and I can access and edit geodatabases and shapefiles.

However, when I try to open a Map document, it says "Failed to open document", click ok, and "The specified file does not contain a valid ArcMap Document". I also cannot open a blank map, add all my data and then save it to the mounted drive, it gives a similar error.

I know the documents work, I can download them and they work just fine.

Is this a problem with ArcGIS or with my SSHFS connection?
