I have values of a certain quantity (concentration) defined on an irregular (georeferenced) grid which I want to visualize in the form of filled contours. Originally, I wanted to create simple vector contour plots which I was successfully able to do using the following procedure (omitting fine details):
- create a raster (GeoTIFF) using gdal_grid utility
- create a vector (shapefile) using gdal_contour
I can load the resulting shapefile into QGIS and see the contours, values etc, but I have lots of data files and I'm trying to automate the process of creating images. My question is - does GDAL provide this functionality or should I look for a different tool to do filled contours? If GDAL has a way to do it, I'll appreciate any pointers on how to do so.
