I have a csv file in which one of the fields contains a "shape" polygon in ESRI format. The other fields are textual, numerical, ext. How do I go about creating a layer from only the polygons in the shape field? (Finally, I want to convert that layer to KML and load it on to google maps).

Thanks for helping a GIS newb :)

Does your csv file have coordinates (x,y) in them? the shape field is more a description of the geometry not the actual coordinates. – Mapperz May 27 '13 at 15:49
Please include an example of how one of your "shapes" is stored in the CSV file. – PolyGeo May 27 '13 at 20:10
