Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I got a tool where the user selects a workspace for storing feature classes, defined as follows:

IGPParameterEdit3 parameter = new GPParameterClass();
parameter.Name = "out_workspace";
parameter.DisplayName = "Output workspace";
parameter.ParameterType = esriGPParameterType.esriGPParameterTypeRequired;
parameter.Direction = esriGPParameterDirection.esriGPParameterDirectionOutput;
parameter.DataType = new DEWorkspaceTypeClass();
parameter.Value = new DEWorkspaceClass();

This works fine for shape folders and file geodatabases. However, when I select a .sde file as workspace, the tool changes extension on the file to .gdb (in the GUI, not on disk).

For example, when selecting "C:\somewhere\myfile.sde", it is shown as "C:\somewhere\myfile.gdb". The tool will of course fail.

When I look at the stock tool called "Feature class to feature class", it uses a composite parameter consisting of DEWorkspaceType and DEDatasetType, and I can select the same .sde files without problems.

I am using ArcObjects/ArcGis 10.0 SP5.
