Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have just installed the map server on my mac OS laptop running 10.9 (maverik). It all seemed to install OK but I did note the warnings that the Map server build was not tested on 10.9.

when I point the browser to: http://localhost/qgis-mapserv/qgis_mapserv.fcgi?

I get:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

<ServiceExceptionReport xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/ogc" version="1.3.0"> <ServiceException code="OperationNotSupported">Please check the value of the REQUEST parameter</ServiceException> </ServiceExceptionReport>

The site www.opengis.net is home to PURL so I am very confused.

I was following the tutorial http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/wiki/QGIS_Server_Tutorial. It was very good a covering installation of the components but I could not figure out the configuration section. It seems to assume you understand how the whole thing works, it does not even give the names of the config files (I did figure that out, I think).

The more I look with Google the more confused I become as there appear to be several ways of doing this all with different instructions.

Long term I will not be using MacOS to host this but it is my development platform.
