comment What are advantages of using spatialite over shapefile?
Good post, but two points about spatial indexes. Shapefiles can be spatially indexed too, and second you have to explicitly join to a Spatialite spatial index which can lead to some unwieldy queries. I still prefer to move data around in a Spatialite DB, but import it into a PostGIS database to take advantage of its more robust query planner.

comment How to identify misaligned corners in PLSS sections
In addition to errors introduced by the tools available and the rough terrain the original surveyors faced, the northernmost and eastern most sections of a township were to deviate from 1 mile square to compensate for the curvature of the earth since your principal meridians start to converge as you go north.

comment QGIS does not read ESRI Geodatabase correctly
In QGIS check the Help -> About to see what version of GDAL/OGR you're using, that's the library that's trying to read the FGDB.

comment PostGIS intersect on insert?
Yeah, the way I have it set now needs a temp table. I'm a big fan of temp tables because I get sketchy data that needs to be cleaned and verified, but if you have confidence in what you've got coming in you can alter the function to pull the county number from an intersect query. The plpgsql docs will help you out with the syntax you'll need to capture and pass the results of the intersect query.

comment Can't view PostGIS rasters after changing schemas
After you move the table to a new schema, did the raster_columns view pick up the change?

comment How to read csv with WKT geometry in Arcmap?
ogr2ogr will expect the OGRVRTLayer value to match the csv's file name, in this case you'd replace "test" with "parcel". You may also want to add an entry for the LayerSRS value to set the coordinate system. If not, it's no big deal since you can use Toolbox to fix it later.

Thanks for the tip! Trace and autocomplete are two of the biggest things I miss when I'm using OSGeo programs.

comment QGIS: subtypes and domains like in ArcGIS?
Create a lookup table that translates the integer value to text, join the two in a view and display the view in QGIS. When you create the view you'll have to include a field that has a unique integer value for each row otherwise QGIS won't display it.

comment Help building SQL query to get a list of streets of a city
ST_Intersects will return each segment as well. If you're just looking for a list of names change your select to SELECT DISTINCT r.osm_name. Change osm_name to whatever your name field is.

comment Compiling PostGIS fails when it can't find GDALAllRegister
Yeah, I've tried --with-gdalconfig and it didn't help. I'll check out the log when I get home this evening.
