I am particularly interested in location analytics, blending Business Intelligence with spatial analysis. Examples include retail/real estate site selection, trade area analysis, customer research, and marketing through demographic analysis.

I use Python for process and workflow automation, database reporting & manipulation, and developing new spatial tools.

I've been a GIS professional for 15+ years, most of which using ESRI tools (since Arc/Info 7.x). More recently I find myself using more open-source tools (QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, web-based tools) and ultimately choosing "the right tool for the job" rather than being tied to a single vendor or toolset.

For learning resources, go to the QGIS Documentation pages and take a peek at the User Guide, Training Manual, and others.

comment How to change Leaflet marker color on mouseover?
You should check out Leaflet.StyleEditor on GitHub. It took me a while to figure out how to get the demo to work, but 1) click the Style tool, 2) click the marker, 3) key point... change the icon setting to something other than default, 4) select color. Voila! Pretty slick.

I have not tried it personally, but have you looked into Cartographic Representations using the Line Offset option? Since you don't really want to move the physical feature, this seems like it would accomplish what you are after.

comment Sourcing GIS data from First World War (WW1)?
I'm not sure if National Geographic provides any data, but they recently published this article: How World War I Launched Mapmaking at National Geographic. Maybe they have created some digital data to go along with their archives.

comment How to rename PostgreSQL/PostGIS columns while importing Shapefiles?
@mapBaker, you are correct. -f is for filename, not column name. Ummm... yeah... I really meant what LR1234567 said :)

It looks like the -f flag can be used for this based upon PostGIS 2.0 pgsql2shp shp2pgsql Command Line Cheatsheet

comment Leaflet: How to enable pan & zoom while GeoJSON still rendering?
Have you tried converting your data to topojson? By eliminating redundant, duplicated nodes, you may find the file sizes reduce significantly and load time decreases as well.

comment How to hide all fields at once in QGIS 1.7
Never mind about the code... I figured it out. To revert to the default setting, use: layer.setEditType(i, QgsVectorLayer.TextEdit). But is there a bulk on/off in the GUI?

comment How to hide all fields at once in QGIS 1.7
@Nathan W- Has there been any GUI updates to bulk hide/show in 2.4? If not (for non-techies) what is the appropriate EditType to show the fields (opposite of QgsVectorLayer.Hidden)?
