I am particularly interested in location analytics, blending Business Intelligence with spatial analysis. Examples include retail/real estate site selection, trade area analysis, customer research, and marketing through demographic analysis.

I use Python for process and workflow automation, database reporting & manipulation, and developing new spatial tools.

I've been a GIS professional for 15+ years, most of which using ESRI tools (since Arc/Info 7.x). More recently I find myself using more open-source tools (QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, web-based tools) and ultimately choosing "the right tool for the job" rather than being tied to a single vendor or toolset.

comment Is there a standard for the specification of .prj files?
I wouldn't call it a standard, but ESRI KB Article 14056 HowTo: Create projection metadata (.prj) files for shapefiles does demonstrate their method for creating a prj from scratch.

comment Listing all feature datasets and classes from multiple geodatabase into CSV file?
A couple of similar questions & answers. I think the first will answer your question, or the 2nd will at least answer part 1 of your question: Creating table containing all filenames (and possibly metadata) in File Geodatabase? or Listing all feature classes in File Geodatabase, including within feature datasets?

Nothing specific to QGIS, but a couple of other similar questions are Fitting a word/tag cloud into geographic boundaries and How to create spatial tag clouds or “tag maps”. You can find these and other similar questions by searching "tag + cloud".

Is it possible for an EDDM user to download/import polygon zip code boundaries into traditional GIS software? Or is there another (licensing) option for using the ZIP code boundaries within GIS software?

Some added details would be helpful, here. Are you wanting to draw a circle of a particular size on-click? Maybe a mocked-up picture would demonstrate what you are looking for.

What type of data? Points, lines, polygons? Do you need the features to be "interactive" (ie- click for an information popup, etc)? The more information you can provide on your use case, the better the answers you will receive.

I was just in the middle of posting practically the same code as you with "TestSchemaLock". I've also updated your second example code with the "time.sleep" function for pausing.
