I am particularly interested in location analytics, blending Business Intelligence with spatial analysis. Examples include retail/real estate site selection, trade area analysis, customer research, and marketing through demographic analysis.

I use Python for process and workflow automation, database reporting & manipulation, and developing new spatial tools.

I've been a GIS professional for 15+ years, most of which using ESRI tools (since Arc/Info 7.x). More recently I find myself using more open-source tools (QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, web-based tools) and ultimately choosing "the right tool for the job" rather than being tied to a single vendor or toolset.

comment How can we generate GeoJSON from SQL data with latlong
Does the table include a spatial data type (a geometry), or just lat/long fields? Any other 3rd party addins like ArcSDE? Can you explain your use of the "geoexplorer" tag?

Have you tried adding arcpy.RefreshActiveView() to the end of your script? Does this change anything?

comment Leaflet marker cluster by Administrative boundary
Here is a customized "markercluster pie charts" plugin that supports pie charts showing "edges" by type of event. This may give you some ideas.

Distance is used to cluster the markers. See "maxClusterRadius" in the documentation.

While I'm not sure if this is technically feasible, either, another possibility would be to cluster by an attribute (like Admin boundary name as an attribute of the point). Great idea, though.

comment arcpy.ListDatasets() returns emtpy list
Have you visually confirmed that there are actual feature datasets that reside in "Auto_Extract_Connection.sde"? As opposed to just standalone feature classes? And of course that you have permissions to view data in "Auto_Extract_Connection.sde"?

comment Exporting an ArcGIS model to a script, with a script?
I'm a little confused by your comments... You say above you want to "apply version control to the models" by exporting to Python. You follow that below stating that using Python Toolboxes won't work because "this breaks collaboration with people who aren't comfortable with python" and "from that point forward I'm on the hook for making even minor changes to the model." Once you have exported your models to Python, you cannot go back to a model, so aren't you still on the hook for making edits to exported Python?

You might give the Kartograph.py library a try.

You say you have plotted the data to D3/leaflet successfully. So what other type of format are you trying to "plot" the points to? A graphics file? A desktop GIS? Another GIS file format (ie- shapefile)?
