comment How to install QGIS on Centos 7?
Unfortunately it is. I spent half a day building dependencies and all the like and I still can't make it. It is very frustrating to require to use a proprietary operating system to run an open source GIS because there aren't proper packages for it. :)

@JohnBarça, that link leads to that "elgis.argeo.org"; which I mentioned already and that is available up to CentOS 6 only so far. Thanks.

comment Is it possible to create a GPS track in QGIS and if so, how? (beginner question)
Right click to finish it. That was so clear and explicit and I missed it. I have no idea of how to fill in that pop-up window that appears when I right click, but it looks like the line actually gets associated to the vector whatever I write. Now it's only a matter of exporting it. Thanks!

Thanks again for your time. Still, the "save" button doesn't get highlighted. I recorded a screencast to show you what I do. Maybe I'm really lost in a lame detail which i missed. youtube.com/watch?v=lrIPr89Zm8I Thank you :)

Thank you for your very nice answer. I have installed a "GPS plugin", which also allows me to "create new GPX layer", which as far as I could understand creates a group of two vector layers (route and track) and one of points (waypoints). In either case, though - by using that plugin or following your very instructions step by step - I can't make it. Whenever I deselect the "toggle edit" feature, QGis does not ask me to save anything and I keep seeing the red line I drawn on the screen. It's not associated to the .shp because if I try to change its style, that line remains red and thin.

Thanks, but export what? I am actually unable to draw the line itself.

Well, actually, 2.4 is out but I'm in no way able to solve this unfortunately.

Perhaps they heard us. It looks like the new Print Composer in QGis 2.4 has some nice features: Improvements to composer picture items "The image item in composer is now 'atlas friendly' - you can use an expression to define which image should be shown for each atlas page. You can also now set the resize mode (zoom, clip, stretch etc.) for the image in relation to its frame size and dimensions. You can also specify the placement of the image relative to its frame using the new placement item property." It looks like it could be what I'm looking for :)

comment How to obtain a DTM/DEM from DSM
Would it be possible to filter out "items" that have certain features - like, up to this size wide and up to this size tall, but not shaped like this (for instance, as a cone?)"? I know I am asking for something quite complicated...

I am experiencing the same issue on Ubuntu Raring, but using a version built from source (master).
