Ive passed this information along but we haven't had time to test it yet! But when we do i can try this and accept an answer!

this does sound like a good method! ..Do you know which bits i would need to script? I've only ever done some very, very basic python scripting before!

What i have been thinking is that i would build a formula based on the DIFFERENCE between the 2 numbers, so if there was a difference of 0 (in the case of -20 and -20), then the buffers would start between the two points, but if there was a difference of 1 then the buffer would start 60% between the two points.. i am just wondering how to execute this!

Sorry it has taken so long to reply - i was hoping the problem would just go away but it hasnt! The problem with a formula is that because all points will be relative to each other, there will never be one definitive linear_unit which we can set. e.g. if a -20 and a -20 were next to each other - then the buffer would start equidistance between them, but if -20 and -10 points were next to each other, the -20 buffer would start 75% between it and the -10 point!!

I have just been reading about the voronoi diagram and it does sound like what i am trying to do! And i really like the sound of it being "straight forward" to create!!

I mean the distance between the 2 points.. so if they are 10m away from each other and one is -20 and the other is -25 then the -25 buffer will start 2.5m from the -20 point!

I dont actually have any rules as of yet - today i will work out a definate formula and then get back to you!! Thank you so much for your help!
