comment OpenLayers: cache WFS Request for Vector Layer
Okey, maybe I was not clear. But as I said in the question, I would like to be able to load this layer/features before to be offline. Example: Online= I go to the application. I go to a settings page. I load all map data by clicking on a button in cache). Then offline = I go to the application, and the map page. All features are retrieved from the cache.

Well..yes. I would like to cache the features in a separate web page (for example, with a button "Load map data"). So the user doesn't need to go to the map web page to cache the associated data.

The codes looks easy to set up (it is quite clear)..but, I cannot make it works. I have no clue why. We have a map page, and in the log I can see that once the page is loaded, the Vector contains the features (ajax call is made). But when I try to do it in a separate page, just with the code above (create the Vector object), the features are empty, because no ajax call to geoserver is made. I don't know which event fire this request. Do you have an idea? Thanks

Yes that's a great explanation. I have still a (very) newbie question. You wrote 'var features = ...; // This is the features you will store in local storage". But I cannot find how to create these features. I mean, from my code I do it using Protocol.WFS, and that populates the features of my Vector.Layer. But if I want to get directly these features, can I? Thanks for the help.

Well, maybe you can tell what is the best :). From the piece of code in my question, I would like to be able to cache data that would let me creating the OpenLayers.Layer.Vector once offline. As I find the documentation of OpenLayers very light, I don't really know how to manage that.

I can not use a sql database for that. But I tried to store it in the mobile local storage. There were some difficulties with JSON.stringify and cyclic objects. Have you already succeed in that task? Thanks

comment Calculating distance in WGS84 (MySQL and Geoserver)
Yes it is possible to calculate in degrees and convert, but it's not always precise. Furthermore, we don't want to make such calculation, but we want to use GIS tools.
