comment arcpy.PackageWorkspace doesn't keep reference to SDE enterprise geodatabase
When I had arcpy.env.workspace = "Database Connections/TestDatabase@hq-gissql01.sde" earlier, that database connection was registered with the server. In spite of this, an .SDE file was still being copied to the v101 folder for the geoprocessing service. Should this be happening?

Thanks @khibma--I'll give this a try. What is the purpose of Server automatically copying the .SDE file to the packageWorkspace during publishing if this is the correct way to handle these cases?

The database is indeed registered with the server. I would like to avoid having the workspace as an input variable since this will be accessed through Web AppBuilder and the workspace isn't an intuitive variable for a user to provide. But I will try that for debugging purposes and report back.

This solved the initial error, so I'll mark it as the solution. Now debugging why my layer is empty...

Also, the same error is returned when I use arcpy.SetParameter(1, "GeocodedZIPsLayer")

If I use CopyFeatures_management(), how do I return those features as an output parameter? What would I put in as the argument to arcpy.SetParameter(1,????)?

I feared this. Maybe a future version of the API will enable such a customization. Thanks for your help.
