Shapefile type: MultiPoint ...is the in_file (which out_file is following the schema of). I ran cascaded_union ...got object of type 'Point' has no len().... :/

@Vince I think you are right. I try to write a 1 pt multipoint though...and I get a error. No probs reading it. Error above./

I looked at this more (and thank you for the feedback on the line example). It seems like Fiona doesn't like me mashing a one-coordinate multipoint back into a multipoint....is this something you've seen before? I updated my question to show it.

it is weird...but it is stopping at 'else' instead of 'if item['type'] == 'MultiPoint':' with this 'MULTIPOINT (13531245.47570414 2886003.268927813)'...this error...NotImplementedError: Multi-part geometries do not provide a coordinate sequence

thanks. city_items is actually a dict. I'll try some research on those points you make. See if I can get the city_items to be shapely geoms (again...I guess the filtering I did with fiona made them into dictionaries).

good to know the multipoint is okay...but still running into road blocks. AttributeError: 'dict' object has no attribute 'coords'. distance_between_pts = capital.distance(city_items.coords) gives me the ' "Multi-part geometries do not provide a coordinate sequence") NotImplementedError: Multi-part geometries do not provide a coordinate sequence'.

Could this be a problem?...it appears I have MultiPoints (and capital is a Point). [{'geometry': {'type': 'MultiPoint', 'coordinates': [(4942585.391221348, 3940520.723517349)]}, 'type': 'Feature', 'id': '17', 'properties': OrderedDict([(u'Status', u'Bad')])}]
