My Identicon looks like four shurikens with big arrows pointing at them as if to say, "This dude's Identicon has shurikens in it. SHURIKENS."

Data ETL workflow optimization Would he be able to schedule this process, too? I personally think that it would be legitimate for you to compare and contrast with other methods because you've disclosed your connection to the company - and hey, he's already got the software, so it's not like you're going to trick him into buying it :) |

Visualization to inference workflow Broadly, I'm just interested in how people incorporate statistical inference into their mapping processes. What you describe is certainly one possible scenario, but there are lots of others and I'm not even especially interested in responses from epidemiology. |

Differentiating a building from a road on a map? I'm pretty much perpetually in awe of your answers. |

Buffers of public transportation transit times Based on my own experiences with the public transit here, I don't think constant velocity is actually a reasonable assumption here. Proximity to an express or regional bus could make a big difference for people in our outlying areas, especially since we're very close to the routes of some of those buses. Then there's the light rail... |

What was the rationale for the non-standard UTM zones near Norway? This is a wild guess based on almost no actual facts, but it's been so long since I've even been able to guess at answers here: Submarines. The Germans had tons of U-boats based in Norway during the Second World War. |

Geocoding that's anonymous, good, and free - does it exist? Looks promising, thanks. |

Geocoding that's anonymous, good, and free - does it exist? Good question - I'm interested in the US broadly, Colorado in particular, the Front Range counties precisely. |

Buffers of public transportation transit times Note: I found out some time later that the Google Maps directions API doesn't permit use of the public transit mode - just driving, walking and bicycling. |

Can I get some recommendations for an Open Source Trouble Ticket system? ... or even StackOverflow. Even though that community is mostly programmers, you'd almost certainly find excellent advice there. Just specify your needs clearly. |

What are your biggest challenges as a GIS developer? I'm a statistician, and I have very similar complaints about ESRI products. My overly-optimistic theory is that, because computers were probably applied to stats before GIS, GIS software is about ten years behind statistical software (in its SAS/SPSS phase) and that a truly outstanding open-source program or stack is on the verge of breaking out. Maybe it already has - it's been years since I've had the chance to play with non-ESRI programs. |
