comment Versioning with ArcSDE - Is it possible to cancel or reject edits once they've been posted?
Thanks. I maintained/extended the reconcile code in ArcObjects for three years so I played adjusting this behavior throughout various ArcGIS releases. I omitted a few things to try to simplify the concepts. I hope it is clear enough as an answer.

OK, let me make a more elaborate answer.

Also, most people dont know this, but (as long as the states have not been completely compressed away), you can add an entry to the VERSIONS table for any state id that is still valid, and then use arcgis to happily browse, edit, and even reconcile that version using standard ArcGIS tools. Versions are just labels to state ids that force ArcSDE to keep those states alive.

comment How can you insert a table record without geometry into a feature?
@Craig. I am 100% sure that if you can insert null geometries through some GUI combination - it is a bug. You should not be able to do that. Trust me, I spent several years adding guard code inside the GeoDatabase to account for those cases to avoid crashes. Don't do it.

comment How to fix “Access to database denied” when accessing PostgreSQL?
start using the "trust" method which should allow you to connect no matter what and then work your way up. Can you connect locally with host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust ?

comment Does File Geodatabase performance degrade as it fills up?
Also, when my clients pick a tech instead of me (the consultant), I warn them of the choice they have made and then become the smart-ass consultant that reminds them of their choice. But that is me.

The reason why I give your samples and mention cursors, is that when you see a complete example of cursor usage in ArcPy, as in some of the examples here help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//… you will see the usage of the keyword del docs.python.org/reference/simple_stmts.html#the-del-statement . My advice to you is to use the crap out of it and hope that the correct COM object goes out of scope and thus releases the zombie COM handles that are thrashing your process.

Look at Geometry Examples section here edndoc.esri.com/arcobjects/9.2/NET_Server_Doc/developer/ADF/…

FileGDB has configuration keywords, too. Some shared with ArcSDE's DBTune keywords edndoc.esri.com/arcobjects/9.2/ComponentHelp/esriGeoDatabase/… For example, you can choose for how the geometries are stored (optimized for size vs speed). I guarantee to you that the defaults are just fine. This sounds more like a different issue related to resources that stay resident in memory
