+1 for the profiling... no need to speculate.

Makes sense. GDB 10.x and higher use a radically different GDB schema...

Yes. There are instructions for Linux and Mac that are very straight forward.

comment How to perform Full Text Search of Esri geodatabase?
I'd also point out that "Full text search", nowadays, is about doing semantic searches. This means that synonyms and the Levenshtein distance should be taken into account for the search... not just case-insensitive string matching.

Are you zooming using satellite view in any of the providers to the point that it switches to oblique view?

Actually, Frank started pronouncing it "G-DAHL" since he started working at Google. Every time he said GOODAL, people inside Google thought he said "Google" and so he had to make a stronger distinction. Even though he has moved on from Google, I still hear him say "G-DAHL" every time I see him at the GeoMeetup :)

@giser That is why I make a distinction between "just drawing vectors" and "vector tiled maps". The second answer was the term I used "entire" maps made out of purely vectors. Here is an example of such a thing: bl.ocks.org/mbostock/5593150

comment Is this possible with ArcGIS using replication?
The two way replica in ArcGIS is simply two ArcGIS versions that push the deltas to each other using difference cursors and create the equivalent of a checkpoint using named versions (which I think may be hidden through the API - but most definitely are not hidden by querying the ArcSDE versions table directly). There is nothing that is stopping you from using those same difference cursors (through code) to move the edits from one database to another. This is what I meant by custom reconcile code :)

Well @BradNesom already has already the right answer :) One thing that may not be obvious is that you need to have versioning enabled to do a two-way replication. Also, you will want to look at GeoDatabase Replication (and not RDBMS replication) if you are looking at geometric networks or network datasets. If the functionality that you get out of the box is not enough, then you have to look a custom reconciliation code. But I wouldn't go there until you know 100% that two-way replication out of the box doesn't do the trick.

Shameless plug; I am solving this exact problem for another AmigoCloud customer. You can do this with a combination of ESRI Versioning and custom reconciliation code.

comment Version editing for Postgresql 9.2.4 / postGIS 2
Do you want to support version editing with something similar to ESRI versioning or just having multiple editors editing the same db? The latter just works, the former requires infrastructure that is still in the works in the open source arena. I myself wrote a versioning system on top of postgis for our work in AmigoCloud. The closest you get to something similar is GeoGit, but it has its disadvantages for certain workflows.

comment Is there a way to connect to PostgreSQL in ArcCatalog without SDE?
programmatically you can actually write through the ExecuteSQL functionality. I just have not built an interface that allows to do it through ArcMap. So you can write through code, but not through the GUI yet.

comment How to create `Workspace` without using `IWorkspaceFactory.Create`?
I guess if you do want it to be permanent, where do you want it to live (since wanting them to be permanent means that you want to access it again)? One option is to get the current user directory stackoverflow.com/questions/1140383/… and then generate a unique file name stackoverflow.com/questions/1602578/… . Append those two things and pass them to the IWorkspaceFactory.Create and you will have a permanent unique workspace

The OP did not mention ArcGIS API so I wasn't assuming that (plenty of GIS can be done without ArcGIS). Yes, I agree that mixing ArcGIS JS with WebGL would be a pain. Tiled vectors are new - but they have a good chance of being the future. Maybe

You mean, limitations in browser support :) The API is well defined (albeit hard to use).
