I agree with you as far as it would be nice to have access to a compiled version of the latest (daily/weekly) development snapshot of QGis. I see the same references to 1.9x and I'm looking forward to all the stuff its capable of :)

My bad, I found an existing feature request (hub.qgis.org/issues/4002) which keeps being pushed to the next version. It seems like a simple change, but I might be wrong then :)
