I am particularly interested in international projects and those focused on remote environments where there exists potential for interesting and meaningful analyses using GIS and remote sensing methodologies.

comment Is it possible to automate the detection of clearcut areas in optical satellite imagery?
@Fezter - the image covers an area of the Skeena region in Northwestern British Columbia. Also, I agree that it may be possible to find useful Landsat imagery from past years. I'll look into this asap.

Good question, unfortunately the imagery only covers the period after the clearcutting took place.

Just looking for clearcut areas (logging). I'm not sure how one would distinguish them from meadows. Low lying vegetation or bare ground, as long as they are clearcuts. I suspect there is no perfect answer, but I'd like to get as close as possible.

comment How can all polylines within a polygon be selected and then operated on to determine the average value from an attribute field?
Yes - I also attempted some restart magic and it still failed to produce populated output. I'll clip my data and attempt it on a subset - although it's not all that big to begin with.

comment How can all polylines within a polygon be selected and then operated on to determine the average value from an attribute field?
I had tried Spatial Join, however I ran into the issue of receiving empty output. I tried many fixes and the only way I found to resolve it was to buffer the lines by a small amount and then perform a join on the two polygon layers. This isn't an ideal solution and I am still trying to sort out the cause of the empty output.

comment Lidar Elevations Data
LiDAR will not provide you with .5cm accuracy over any length. For this level of precision you would need field surveys.
