Member of Advanced Apps team in Spatial Analysis Branch at U.S. Geological Survey's National Wetlands Research Center. I work with almost every phase of the esri stack; database, server and client side. I'm fascinated by well designed maps and applications.

How to autonumber fields in versioned ArcGIS 10 SDE? Okay, thanks for the input, that should work. I was afraid that I was asking for trouble heading down that path. |

How to autonumber fields in versioned ArcGIS 10 SDE? Ragi, any tips for SQL Server 2008? It looks like I'm going to have to manage the auto-increment ID on the client side, which seems a bit problematic. (I'm working with the javascript API) |

How to let ArcGIS Server see related records in a geodatabase For what it's worth, I have a related problem. I'm able to see the relationship in the map service, but not in the accompanying feature service. I should be able to apply edits to the table directly in the feature service, but will have to hard code the relationships into my application. I wish this wasn't so inconsistent. (v10.0 sde, server v10.05) |

Any advice to help troubleshoot failing ArcGIS Server (10.0 sp5) Geoprocesses? So, while setting up a second server (using the same data store), I found another detail that I took for granted on the first server. I'm not sure of the exactly why this works, but I could not get gp tasks to complete consistently until I created another jobs directory separate from the jobs directory used for the first server. Another thing to look out for is the SOC account temp folder. It's a good idea to move it to a folder at the root level of a local drive instead of the windows default. ESRI recommends that job paths not be longer than 100 characters. |

How should I publish an arcgis toolbox via arcobjects (c#)? Unfortunately, no. I stopped looking after I exhausted all of my leads. I'm okay with publishing toolboxes manually since we don't have all that many. I'd be really interested to hear any other possible methods that you may encounter, though. |

How would one write a ArcGIS JSAPI layer to access WMS service via a Tile Server? I think you're on to something here. I haven't tried the WMTS approach yet, but it sounds like the right path based on what you're seeing with normal WMS. I'm not too surprised to see it pulling only one image as that's the norm for non-tiled WMS services. And as for OL, in my opinion the best way to learn how things work is to dig in to the code to see what's going on behind the scenes! |

Does the ArcGIS Javascript API support multiple map service urls per layer? That's not quite what I was getting at with the original question, but here's how I use TileCache layers within the arcgis api. I use the custom layer example from the arcgis api reference, similar to the 'my.PortlandTiledMapServiceLayer' instance created in this example. Here's the key piece from my 'getTileUrl' code. --> return url + level + "/" + col + "/" + row + "." + img_fmt + "?type=google" |

Openlayers - Different zoom levels with a WMS layer and only one resolution hm, where'd you get your one 'level'? I think Aragon is heading in the right direction. In order to create different levels, you might want to look for a server-side solution. Openlayers will consume WMS, but it won't generate any more content. |

How should I publish an arcgis toolbox via arcobjects (c#)? Not really, last message before I restart the crashed SOM service is "attempting to add configuration XX/XX of type GPServer" XX/XX is folder and service name. I've verified that I can publish the toolbox via the right-click menu in Catalog |

Web-based map authoring with ArcGIS Server? You might want to check out TileMill also. I don't have much experience with it but it might fit your needs. You'll need to decide what you plan on using to store your data though. If you're using SDE, you might want to check out the arcpy mapping module. You could use that to build maps behind the scenes based on user input captured with the arcgis javascript api. This sounds like an interesting project, good luck! |
