Thanks @MichaelMiles-Stimson, I ended up doing what you suggested; making a 8 point bounding box (4 on the corners, for in the middle of the edges), reprojecting each point, then defining the bounding box as a box that captures all 8 transformed points. Any chance you can post this answer so I can mark it correct?

Just edited the question. By unprojected I meant that the shapefile was in raw lat/lng coordinates. Is that how I should refer to it?

comment How to run sextante algorithms outside of qgis python console?
Hi Victor, is this still the case? I'm struggling with how to call Sextante in a standalone script (outside of QGIS) and finding all examples I google to not work. This was posted a year ago so I wonder if the architecture of sextante has changed?
