comment How to List field name aliases in ONE shapefile/layer using ArcPy?
The @blah238--your answer is correct. Turns out that when I exported out this shapefile from a gdb, it stripped the alias name. I guess...kind of weird but they aren't there any more. Works for other layers that have the aliases there though.

Yes. The reason I know this is because if I run the code as I had originally, it generates all the field name aliases for that layer (the one I want) plus all the other layers that I don't want. I just want to print out the alias names for the specific layer.

Just tried it. It executes perfectly, but it returns a list of the field names--not the alias name of the field. Interesting...

excellent. I was looking at the wildcard parameter but wasn't quite sure as to how to use it properly. many thanks!

Thanks a lot @AHigh. I will give this a try. This sounds like a good cookbook project I can experiment with and perhaps learn from it, so I am going to give you a +1. I am going to hang on for a day or two and let others respond, if any before accepting the solution though. Many thanks.

Thanks @klewis! One thing though--the points don't exactly overlap each other (meaning the x-y coordinates are close but not equal to each other), but I just need to aggregate the points that fall within 100 feet of each other. It doesn't appear as though the dissolve feature as a way of dissolving within a certain distance threshold. I am assuming then that I would need to do some cleaning up using some proximity analysis?
