comment Custom labeling with same angle as rectangular object and specific position using QGIS?
@PolyGeo thanks. I have edited the question to be QGIS for now.

@MikeRads sorry no. Its 2+ years on now though so there is probably an Esri workflow or try globalmapper

True, any ideas on how to remove duplicate numbering on the same street? Also not label if the address field does not start with a number.

Another option is to work out a way to not label any duplicate street numbers on the same street and to only use the number after a "/" (and before the " ") when addressing. Addresses also should not start with a character and be based on the Address column rather than ST_No_Label

@PeterHorsbøllMøller just thinking about this further. If there is a way to only label Lotplans that are 0BUP we can solve a lot of the issues and let Case 1 and 2 above just label as they currently are. Ideally using the code in my question as a base.

Yes, I was hoping to avoid this but it looks like I will have to have a label column just for this project or the label queries get far to complex.

Case 2 - my mistake, for blocks where we have 10LPxxxx and 11LPxxxx where xxxx is the same we do want both addresses to show as they are distinct blocks. So this should show 10/63-65 and 11/63-65

Case 3 - Yes the first digit of the Lotplan is different as these are multistory buildings but we need to just consider the value after BUP (which is the same). For these we just need to show the street address once for the whole building and not each apartment. So if had 50 apartments we don't have 1/345, 2/345 etc but just 345.

With {Left$(Address, InStr(1, Address, Chr$(9))-1)} nothing prints.

I tried the following but it still prints the 0. It doesn't print in the lots with null though. {St_No_1+Left$(" ; "+LOTPLAN, Len(" ; "+LOTPLAN)*Int(Suf_No_1="R") * Int (St_No_1<>0))}

So if the full address is "1/12 Davidson ST, PORT SMITH" it is printing "Port" but it should print 1/12. How do I tell if it is a tab? it's all in one address field as {1/12 Davidson ST, PORT SMITH}

comment If-then expression in Mapinfo label expressions
Brilliant. One other complication that I found when I ran this. It should not put any label where the St_No is '0' or Null.. Can we add this condition. Would it be something like ...{ "R") * Int (St_No <> 0))... }?

So whose answer should I pick? you both answered the same but neither of them get all characters from the left up to the first space. Thanks for pointing me to the reference guide. I didn't know it was there.

Thanks. It is printing Pxxx rather than 1/12. I want it to print from the first character upto the first space character.

comment QGIS/OGR shp to tab export - crashing Mapinfo due to number format issues
@user30184 -does this help? georezo.net/jparis/mb_r/doc/Tab_file_format/tab_file_format.htm --- I know that deleting the field with the wrong specs worked and also converting the shp to tab using FME (from MI) and using Globalmapper worked without any manual changes. I will add the offending shp shortly.
