It was the coordinates systems. The projections. The default for geoJSON is WGS84. Yours uses something else. It might be weird for outsiders but it is normal for the people here, hence the downvotes.

@Jurg Wait, now I'm confused. Were you able to convert the shapefile to geoJSON already? Only that it doesn't work with Bostock's code?

You did not modify the code at all? You just replaced the geoJSON file?

Can you post a link to the sample of the geoJSON that works and the one that doesn't?

@user30184 Hi, maybe you can put it as an answer instead of a comment?

@sBarfort If the answer solves your question then you might want to accept it. That way others will know that it is the correct answer.

@Cesare It's best to ask it as a question instead of in the comments.

While this link may answer the question, it is better to include the essential parts of the answer here and provide the link for reference. Link-only answers can become invalid if the linked page changes.

comment Formulae to convert WGS84 coordinates (B,L) to spherical coordinates (phi, lambda)?
Please do state it in the question. People usually ask for software packages or good so it pays to make the question explicit.

Welcome to GIS StackExchange! What are you asking for exactly? The formula to the conversion? You might want to include that in your question.

You might want to edit your question to reflect that. So other people wont post CLI tools.

comment What is an easy to use web GIS stack to use for making fictional maps?
@PolyGeo Point taken. Maybe Manny can focus rephrase his question to focus on creating imaginary maps. Also, to clarify on why it has to be web based. It is also unclear what fictional means when he mentioned OSM. Does it mean that the base map will be OSM data but there will be fictional places, buildings etc? Or will the landforms, landscape be all imaginary?

I don't think it is a duplicate. The use case and the context matters. The answers may be similar but the questions are sufficiently different.
