comment How to improve performance of Oracle Spatial function sdo_aggr_mbr
Unfortunately, even though I did not express this in my question, I need to calculate the MBR for a subset too, so the SDO_TUNE.EXTENT() function is no option. I hoped that there is a way to tune the MBR function, maybe by informing the operation that it just handles a 2D point, but it seems that there is nothing what can be done.

The function of Oracle SDO_SAM.TILED_AGGREGATES (docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28400/…) which is doing this.

@BradHards, the motivation of the PM is that PostgreSQL will not be supported anymore by the admins of the companies computer center.

@martin f, I don't know which indicators are best for this question, I just wanted to provide a rough picture about the type and load of the implemented application. The SOPM should be around 100 and the 'CUPM'at about 30 in peak hours - so nothing serious.

comment st_multi equivalent in Oracle spatial / how to convert polygon to multipolygon?
well, there is a reason for this requirement. If You create geometries with the oracle function sdo_aggr_union, Oracle creates polygons (2003) and multi polygons (2007) depending on the result. You cannot force the function to create a multi polygon if it contains just one polygon.

There is an application which is expecting multipolygons (instead of geometry), but I have polygon and multipolygon mixed in the db column. Now I need to clean up the data until the application is ready to accept both types.
