comment Find ordinal polygon points
This seems impressive, though, I'm not a PostGIS pro and could use some help calling this. When I execute this, I get ERROR: relation "accumulation" does not exist. Must I find and replace all occurrences of "accumulation" with the name of my table? How can we make this table independent?

comment Find ordinal polygon points
Thanks @StefanB. 1. It doesn't have to be an existing point. It can be on a line between points. 2. Yes, this sounds fine. To give some context. I want to add an 'x' button to the top-right of the poly, mimicking a window, as a close button.

I should add that PostGIS has ST_SimplifyPreserveTopology which implements the Douglas-Peucker algo. Thx!

This is nearly perfect. Thanks! I'd also like to store this. How can I modify it to update the parent column?

Nevermind, the PolygonZ indicates the Shapefile type... which makes sense. ;)

comment Force dimensionality with shp2pgsql
man shp2pgsql makes no mention of this parameter, whereas shp2pgsql --help does. Thanks. The output from the console is still PolygonZ... which is confusing -- nevertheless, Postgres doesn't complain. Cheers.

hello Erik, if you download and extract the polymaps plugin to your web server then you can access a perfect example at: localhost/polymaps/examples/tipsy/tipsy.html - Check the source on this guy. Truth be told, I've put this mapping project into temporary hiatus mode and didn't achieve clickable datapoints yet, but this is exactly where I would start. All the best!

As a first step towards generating the content from a database, I've put the map files in my PHP directory and used var l = org.polymaps.geoJson(); l.url("flickr.php"); The flickr.php file echos out the identical json that flickr.json contains, but I see no results... Am I thinking about this wrong? Please elaborate on what you mean by If you're talking about GeoJSON you can use any kind of database, and backend server...

Thank you Aaron, the links you have posted are truly indispensable. I've downloaded the files for later review, I will be referring to them when I am at the interactivity stage. I'm not sure Tilestache is something I require because the actual tiling is being looked after by Bing, no? The custom data I will be serving up is polygon data, not any sort of .png, .jpg, etc imagery. Is there any chance I could take a peak at ./flickr.json? Missing link. Cheers and thanks again.
