Why does Table Manager not work? Done. My thought was to wait for some feedback from Tampas, as we are still guessing here, even if it is very likely a special character issue, but upvoting probably won't hurt :) |

Why does Table Manager not work? I had a similar problem with a Win7 username containing the German umlaut "ä" once, changing my username to a umlaut- and special-character-free one solved all problems. |

Is there a way to add system date in print composer? Are there any more commands like that? |

How to change position of columns in attribute table? The table manager works perfectly with shapefiles, you don't even have to save the changes to a new file but can keep the current one. Working in OO/Libre would work just fine, too, but take care not to resort your dbf-file without being able to restore the original sorting (e.g. by using a feature id field) or the shapefile will show wrong attributes for each feature. |

DBF creation and manipulation without excel 2003 Sorry for bringing this thread back up to the frontpage, but: I resort and modify data types within my DBFs all the time during data manipulation, and the trick to avoid corruption is quite simple: Create a "feature id" field in your GIS package (using the field calculator), and resort your DBF using this column before saving and closing OpenOffice or Libre. It seems that *.shp connects features and attributes purely by "row-ID" - feature 1 goes to row 1, no matter if you resorted the DBF file or not. |

How to add labels outside of features? Awesome, thanks for the info on the circle-creation technique! |

How to add labels outside of features? Hm, i think underdark's editing made my comment disappear, so here again: according to my notes vertical alignment is defined by these commands: 'Bottom', 'Base', 'Half' and 'Top' (without quotation marks, of course) |

How to get OS Mastermap data into QGIS? I'm not too familiar with GML and have no knowledge on Mastermap data, but I suppose it's just like any pure vector data (like shape) and thus doesn't contain any styling by default - that would be your job (maybe there are some pre-defined stylings in the web somewhere?). Also, QGIS can copy-paste styles from one layer to another, that might be handy. Regarding the multiple folders: As far as it looks, the GML plugin converts ALL *.gz files within the input folder and puts them in accordingly named output subfolders, so you just would have to run the process four times? |

How to add labels outside of features? Wow, quite some handy plugin. Btw, if you can't find it, it's still marked as "experimental" and thus might not show up in your plugin list by default (you can change this under "Options" - "Allowed plugins"). |

Is there a way to add a “current user” label to the print composer? "$CURRENT_DATE(yyyy-MM-dd)" turned out to be very useful and I included it in many of my composer templates. Are there more of these commands available? Like to automatically show my project's name, or a certain layer name, etc.? |

'undefined' is not a constructor (evaluating 'new > OpenLayers.Layer.GML' Plus, you avoid bandwidth leeching :). Building your own OpenLayers JavaScript file with Python is quick and easy even on Windows machines, just don't try to use the wrong Python version like I did (that is, use Python 2.x and not 3.x) |

How to publish my map on the web? The answer heavily depends on how you want to publish your map online - the spectrum of possibilities ranges from exporting a simple *.jpg and putting it on your website to creating a dynamic webservice a la Google maps, either with tiled raster data or true vector data. |

Creating a small web-mapping/map-tiling service Ah, thanks, good to know. Definitely have to try that out, it has been a little annoying to switch between win7 and ubuntu the whole time. |

How to change field length in QGIS I have repeatedly worked with dbf files containing 30k rows and 20+ columns, and never faced any problems, so this seems to be a local problem? |

How to change field length in QGIS And about the sorting: The connection between feature data (polygons, points, lines) and the attribute data seems to be made by row number, to if you resort any attribute-file in Calc and save it, wrong attributes will be connected with your features (mixed up, so to say). |

How to change field length in QGIS I have never experienced any data corruption so far. Did you accidentally change data types (C, for example, stands for character, more is explained here: dbase.com/knowledgebase/int/db7_file_fmt.htm)? Although Calc does warn you if you try to save a dbf with data in it that doesn't fit the header. I still don't quite understand in which way your data gets corrupted, that could almost mean anything... |
