comment How do I convert a tweet into a point in QGIS?
it seems like you could lose the product tags "r", "qgis" and "arcgis" since you just need to extract the coordinates from Twitter's API. Once you have that information, you'd add the points to any product using its standard functionality

comment one mxd per region or many mxd's per map
Another problem is that if a change is made to one layer (eg the symbology, the label font, etc) then you'll need to make that change in every MXD which uses that layer. Data-driven pages definitely sounds like the way to go

comment How to determine the optimal raster resolution when interpolating a surface from points?
@whuber is there a "geostatistics for dummies" site you could recommend? eg "it depends on the statistical nature of the observations" - what am I looking for, and how would I adjust the interpolation parameters as a result of my findings?

PS it looks like your code should read for row in cursor since that's the name you've given to the cursor a few lines earlier

Hi Julia, welcome to GIS Stack Exchange. I've edited your code to make it more readable - you don't need to include all the comments, just the sections which are causing the problems. Can you please let us know the exact wording of the error message you're seeing?

comment I've installed OpenGeo Suite, how do I use it with Leaflet?
A suggestion is to start more slowly, and build experience in Leaflet and OpenGeo separately. Then integrate them once you are more familiar with both. At the moment, debugging will be a nightmare as there will be so many places to look
