comment Large Rasters in ArcGIS & MapInfo
I haven't tried it and can't find much information about its compatibility with other products - but ArcGIS Server's Image extension might be worth researching further

comment What web GIS is this? (And how can you tell?)
see mapengine.id=mapengine.ngis - it might also be a product by NGIS who used to write an application which sat on top of ArcIMS (I think). Can you share the page where you found the above request?

comment Avoiding Python version confusion when using IDLE with ArcGIS Pro and rest of ArcGIS for Desktop?
PythonWin also has great debugging capabilities, including a handy Watch window which lets you quickly see multiple variables' values

comment How to write to a single table via Python multiprocessing
@Luke thanks, multiprocessing.Lock() works. But it seems to remove any benefits of multiprocessing as it creates a bottleneck. I guess the whole approach is flawed, as per Michael's original comment which started this whole exploration!

comment How to write to a single table via Python multiprocessing
Thanks for the tips - not bad for your first multiprocessing script :) I think the problem only occurs when multiple processes try to access the insertCursor simultaneously, which doesn't happen in your simple script. If I replace your bList with the larger list generated by loading all the cities (for city in sCursor: bList.append([outTblName, city[0], city[1]]), I get the same result as my original script. That is, only around 450 of the original 593 cities are added.

comment How to write to a single table via Python multiprocessing
@MichaelMiles-Stimson how can I detect when the whole process is finished, so I can append the tables? If I include print("finished") indented by one tab (same level as the with arcpy.da.SearchCursor...) this is the first (not last) thing I see.

I also tried calling the function recursively in the case of errors - still no dice. I guess creating multiple tables and appending them is the best workaround

comment Can multiprocessing with arcpy be run in a script tool?
@MichaelMiles-Stimson I just posted a question asking how to handle multiple insert cursors ;)

Wait, is she really downloading 1.4Gb of data in a WFS request? I'd hesitate before sending that via FTP

Also, I think you've referenced the exact blog post that the question says is outdate

comment How can I save and re-apply symbology properties for a classified raster in ArcMap 10.2?
@nugget the Save option should be found at the top right of the Symbology dialog, beside the Import button. Try using Alt-X (for eXport) to see if you can force the dialog manually. It shouldn't depend on the license level but may depend on the raster type.

comment How to run a python script on the server, returning the results to the client
... still working on it but gis.stackexchange.com/a/34968/3112 helps - I need to set a Derived output parameter in order to receive a response back from the script.

comment How to run a python script on the server, returning the results to the client
Thanks @Mr.Concolato - good to know. Since I'm relying on arcpy functionality, the AJAX approach probably requires a dedicated installation of ArcGIS Desktop on the server(?) so the geoprocessing service approach may be more suitable?

comment How to run a python script on the server, returning the results to the client
This is probably veering towards needing a new question, but I'll persist here for the moment. Assuming I've built up a JSON object in Python - what is the command to return the JSON object from the server to the client? thanks

comment How to run a python script on the server, returning the results to the client
What is a geoprocessing service states a task takes simple data captured in a web application, processes it, and returns meaningful and useful output in the form of features, maps, reports, and files - but what if I want to return text, in the form of HTML?

Thanks Jeremy. I'm experienced in Python scripts on the client, but a total novice at using them via ArcGIS Server, so I'll give this a try

Thanks. I'm working at a client site, so it should only take about a year for the upgrade to happen ;)

comment What makes a MXD file size larger and how to decrease its size?
wow - I was struggling with an MXD which blew out to 100Mb for no apparent reason. I removed one gp result and it's back down to 1.5Mb. This is a very good thing to know
