Which remote sensing satellite is best used for vegetation extent mapping @David about the pan sharpening comment: indeed, if you want to analyse the spectral information of the image (e.g for automatic classification purposes) it is better not to change the original values (DN) of the pixels. But for visual interpretation/classification or if you want to perform automatic segmentation, using the pan-sharpened image will be of great utility. |

Which remote sensing satellite is best used for vegetation extent mapping Landsat 5 TM was the satelite refered, so ~30m resolution. But I agree with higher richness of Landsat. The idea though, was just to automatically map where vegetation exists. And as you said, for that matter, both let you generate the NDVI. SPOT just gives you better spatial resolution. Free SPOT 5 images?! thats nice! |

How to make a cloud mask from a daily MOD09 image? That's a very important info I didn't know of - I studied earth sciences not computer science, though I enjoy it a lot :) related to the QA layer, I still have some doubts because, I get the same value where the image is cloudy and where the image is clear... |

How to make a cloud mask from a daily MOD09 image? Thank you! My task is just to read those bits... I have the QC_250m layer in a tif, but I don't understand the pixel values. I know I should convert, say 4096 to bits and get: 100000010010110, where the 3rd and 4th bits would represent the 00 'clear' flag. But this appears where I'm seeing clouds... |
