comment update Image and Tile/XYZ layers while panning in OpenLayers 3
Thank you, and sorry for throwing in a different use case there. I ended up solving it by using .on( "pointermove" ) to replace the DragPan interaction completely, as described here: gis.stackexchange.com/questions/151653/…

Your answer to my other question (gis.stackexchange.com/questions/151653/…) also answered my Image Layer problem.

comment dragging while holding ctrl (control) key doesn't work in OpenLayers3?
Thank you very much for taking the time to put this together. It helped me immensely, not only with this problem, but another custom behavior I wanted while panning. I modified your approach to not create the default DragPan interaction at all (i.e., my map has no DragPan interaction per se, and I just do all that needs to be done in this on pointermove function).

comment update Image and Tile/XYZ layers while panning in OpenLayers 3
Thanks, but unless I'm misunderstanding something that doesn't solve it for me. In this case it's not that I'm worried about the user panning to an undrawn part of the layer. It's that I want the layer to update continuously as the pan happens so the labels of the lat/lon grid will always stay at the top and left side of the screen, and not, for instance, be dragged into the middle of the screen.

Thanks, this is a good solution for my WMS layers. But I actually have another use case, which I should have made clear up front: I am using an ImageCanvas layer to draw a custom graticule (lat/lon grid lines and labels -- I am doing this custom for various reasons because the default lat/lon grid doesn't do all I need). So what I want is for my canvasFunction to get called continuously as I pan the map so the lat/lon grid always looks good. As it is now, the grid and all the labels pan with the map and only update when I release the mouse.

Thanks, this addressed the XYZ issue so now my tiles fill in as I drag. Still hoping to get an answer on the Image layer question, but will accept this answer as correct if I do not.

comment Force reload of Tiles in Layer
For me, for a local xyz tile layer, this method of calling setTileUrlFunction() on the layer's source is the only thing that appears to work to cause openlayers to re-query all the layer's tiles.

comment in python, srs.ExportToProj4() returns an empty string, why?
Kyle (continued), I don't know if those file details give a clue as to which is more recent, but as I say I believe I've tried them both and get the same result either way with this particular "Albers" file I'm using.

Kyle (continued), I was somewhat encouraged when doing a comparison of, for instance, the alaska file inside of my GDAL/projlib folder with the alaska file in my python's pyproj/data folder. They are both binary files but the former has a different header, starting with "CTABLE V2.0" and then differing from the latter file in various places for the next 100 bytes or so, and then after that the contents are the same. The latter directory also has the file FL, whereas there is no such file in the former directory.

Kyle, it's confusing to me. I am using GDAL 1.6, because my understanding is that's the latest one for which there are python bindings. In python I'm using osgeo, gdal, and pyproj, and I'm a bit confused as to which of those includes the others and which are independent. In any case, I have the path to the gdal binaries in "PATH", the path to the gdal data in "GDAL_DATA", and the path to the pyproj/projib set in "PROJ_LIB" -- all of those both as system environment variables and set via python's os.environ. All of this I've tried in various combinations always with the same error.

Just write to a temp file, and when the write succeeds swap the names of the files and delete the old one.

I don't see how you can avoid rewriting the GeoJSON file, since the records are not fixed length. Why are you worried about writing the whole file?

PhoneGap gives you an API to write files to the device file system, right? So you can do whatever you want with the GeoJSON (or any other text data) in your JavaScript and then just save the file, right? It doesn't need to be wrapped up with OpenLayers' save strategy, right?
