What are Raster and Vector data in GIS and when to use? @whuber, Are these not just (very important) implementation details of the analysis rather than intrinsic properties of the data? I think it is useful to have rules of thumb about how best to use different data models, but they can also be very limiting. These limits are often imposed by limitations in software interfaces rather than performance or applicability of a particular algorithm to a problem. A GIS interface that blurred the differences would be hugely useful. |
